Summer 2019 (June to August)

Summer 2019 (June to August) - Dear Potential Members! Thank you for your interest in our local homeschool group. Please make sure to read this full blog post so you understand what is needed to join our group. We have had many new families join our group and we are thrilled to welcome them! I would like to remind you that our group is a local group for families in Venice to North Port and surrounding areas. During the summer months we are randomly active and very limited in our activities. Between families going on vacations out of state, local schools being out so libraries, museums, parks, etc are typically filled, and in ability to receive discounts for group purchases we tend to take our times for our families. Many of us take this time to catch up on book-work homeschooling or at home projects. We will have some random beach and splash pad meet up days that the Admin Team will attempt to email to share with the potential members. We will likely only give a few days to a week notice. Once Fall hits our event calendar will fill up again and we will begin our more common event activities. We advise families to please wait till fall to fill out the application form if you aren't around during the Summer or are likely to miss the emails. We are also going through some changes as an Admin Team and will be a little disorganized as transitions with new members to the Team take over some of the responsibilities. Welcome! Gulf Beach Homeschoolers is an all inclusive non-religious group aimed at providing social opportunities for our kids.  We are a FREE group and attempt to keep all activities free to low cost. Our group is primarily located in South Sarasota County FL but have families join our activities from surrounding areas as well.

This website was created for families looking to join our Facebook Group, which is our main source of organizing events and activities. All potential members MUST fill out the Application Form and request to join the Facebook Group where they MUST answer all three questions or risk being declined in 24 hours. We are looking for active members who are able to participate regularly as well as possibly volunteer to host field trips or other educational and social opportunities for our kids. Why We Require Meet and Greets Before Adding Members to Facebook  - We do require ALL potential members to attend a meet and greet aka an event hosted by the Admins, which is held in South Sarasota County ONLY. We want to put a face to the Facebook profile. We do a number of meet ups and want to make sure that ALL members receiving this information are current homeschoolers and real people not fake profiles. In our opinion this is important for the safety of our children and our homeschool group. We love that the area is a large homeschool community and there are a number of other Facebook homeschool groups in this area who do not require a meet and greet. We encourage all potential members and current members to utilize all of these resources.  We aim to add everyone we can to the group but we must meet you in person first. We rarely make exceptions to this rule BUT if you are unable to attend meet and greets in South Sarasota County (Venice to North Port) then please contact us to find out how we might be able to help.

Update to the Email and Member Requesting Policy - From this point, 10/2018, on if a potential member has been on the email list and requesting to join the Facebook group (which you MUST do both) for a year that potential member will be removed from the email list and declined from the Facebook. This is due to a number of potential members who have NOT emailed back and have not attempted to come to a meet and greet event. Potential members who are unable to come to a specific meet and greet should contact us to find out if we can work some other way for them to meet up and join the group. No contact after a year is a reason for decline. If a potential member continues to request to join and does this for two years they will be put on the No Add list which will be cause for automatic declining followed by potential blocking. While this may sound harsh the Admin takes time away from their family to email, cycle through, and attempt to contact potential families completely on a volunteer basis. This is a free group and all members who are part of the Admin Team or members who host events are volunteering their time. 

Application Process:  For all potential members - please take a moment to fill out the Application Form located on the Application Page.  After the form is complete an Admin will contact you within 2 to 4 weeks about our next Meet and Greet park play date/potluck which you are required to attend before we add any New Members to the Facebook Group. Meet and Greets only happen once a month typically at the middle to end of the month. 

Gulf Beach Homeschoolers does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. As a Free Group we have the right to deny and/or remove any member without cause or reason given.
